Desperate Housewives v. Filipino Doctors

I watched the scene on the "Desperate Housewives" and felt a sense of humiliation and embarassment to the Filipino society, the race where I came from. It was not a joke but to them it sounded like one.... Not a funny act to do just to get everyone's attention to watch the show. To: ABC To the producers of "Desperate Housewives" and ABC: We are writing to express concern and hurt about a racially-discriminatory comment made in an episode of Desperate Housewives on 9/30/07. In a scene in which Susan was told by her gynecologist that she might be hitting menopause, she replied, "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines." As members and allies of the Filipino American community, we are writing to inform you that this type of derogatory remark was discriminatory and hurtful, and such a comment was not necessary to maintain any humor in the show. Additionally, a statement that devalues Filipinos in healthcare is extremely unfounded, considering the overwhelming presence of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the medical field. Filipinos are the second largest immigrant population in the United States, with many entering the U.S. (and successfully passing their U.S. licensing boards!) as doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. In fact, the Philippines produces more U.S. nurses than any other country in the world. So, to belittle the education, experience, or value of Filipino Americans in health care is extremely disrespectful and plain and simply ignorant. Many of the hospitals in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. (and the world) would not be able to operate without its Filipino and Filipino American staff members. As Filipino Americans and allies, we band together to ensure that this type of hateful message should not be allowed to continue on our television and radio airwaves. Given the recent amounts of media attention that has been given to Michael Richards (against African Americans), Isaiah Washington (against gays), and Rosie O'Donnell (against Asian/ Chinese Americans), it is ridiculous that this type of hateful speech made it through various screenwriters, the show's producers, the show's actors, and ABC itself. We demand a public apology to the Filipino American community, and we demand the episode be edited to remove the ignorant and racist remark. We will not allow hateful messages against our community (or any other oppressed community) to continue. Sincerely, The Undersigned

What a Day!!!??#@

Yesterday wasnt a very good day for me. At first, I was enjoying my Saturday off because me and my friend Michelle (she's my one and only die-hard-shopper-classmate) were together. Enjoying the early afternoon watching the Filipino Chanel until 4:00. When heat was almost over our feet were dragging us to go to the mall to check if there was any sales going on. I think we were born to have an instinct on sales in the department stores (well, our husbands tolerate us, I guess ;-D). Was tempted to buy some clothings at the Old Navy since they were almost 50% sale on almost all items. It took us almost 3 hours to finish on one store. Until our tummies were growling giving us a hint that our "anacondas" inside were hungry. We paid all what we have chosen to buy then went out and hopped on our car to find a fastfood. Since we didnt want to waste any of our "precious" time we settled down in the nearest food stop near the mall called SONIC. After 15minutes of munching we headed back to the nearest (and biggest) Ross Dress for Less Store and spent almost 3 hours there until we finally decided which clothes to fit. Before going to the fitting room I decided to stop by the ladies' room to deposit what had been very heavy on my abdominal muscles. Peed as fast as I could and went right away to the dressing room which was just across the rest room. Spent almost 30minutes fitting the clothes that I got when I decided to call my husband. Reaching for my cell inside my bag but I failed. There was no cellphone inside. Tried reaching the back pocket of my capri pants but still failed to find the small gadget that will my means of contacting my husband. Then I remembered that I laid it down on the tissue box while I was peeing...and because of the excitement on fitting those clothes I forgot it and just walked away. As fast as I could, I went to the restroom and the cubicle which I used to pee was not vacant anymore. I tried to talk loud to the lady who was inside the cubicle and asked her if there was any cellphone left on top of the tissue box...and she answered me clearly - - THERE'S NOTHING IN HERE. Oh my God, I thought she was just saying it but it wasnt really there. I grabbed Michelle's phone right away so that I can contact my number and hoping I can hear it rang...but I failed. My cell was already turned off by somebody who got it. Lucky her...and unfortunate me! We tried to ask around until we reached the customer service hoping that somebody turned it in...but then, we failed again. Called my husband who was a little bit upset on what he heard. Who wont be upset about what happened? Except the one who got it. I just got it the first week of this month...then I lost it right away. I was so blessed that just right next door was a verizon outlet...whew! I went there right away and told the gentleman about what happened. They shut off my connection and blocked the phone. But listen to the sad part of my story..... they won't replace my phone for a 50$ value...just liked what I did before. They

My 4th of July...

My 4th of July here in Reno, NV was good. Weather wasnt that nice for it reached 106F that seemed like not the right day to be outside. There were down-to-earth sales in every store. Hubby woke me up with a word reminding me " time to wake up and time to go to JC PENNY!" My husband knew the right word to say to wake me up totally. Of course, any woman who loves to go shopping with the husband's approval (I mean, my financer's approval...hehehe) will surely LOVE that!! That's why I LOVE my husband SOO MUCH!! He knows me very well...my dislikes and most specially my likes :-P! We met my friend Michelle, who arrived so late, at JC PENNY. We spent like 4 hours there until my husband decided to leave us and let us do the shopping our own way. You know how women are like??? We can stay in a department store even for an entire day. We finally stopped until me and my friend heard the grumbling noises that were made by our hungry tummy. We went out from JCP finally. My hubby met us at western village for our late lunch. It felt so nice inside the restaurant because of the airconditioning that cooled my whole system. Its VERY HOOOT outside!! Believe me, even hotter than in the Philippines!!! Hubby left us again and michelle and I decided to gamble a little bit. When I finally realized that the slot machine was so hungry and there was NO way of giving me a little consolation I stopped playing and just grabbed my cellphone to call a dear friend while michelle continued playing. She was lucky that day because her machine was a bit friendly and gave her enough consolation for another shopping spree. Around 6:00pm we were on our way to ROSS'. It wasnt a lot of fun because the moment we stepped in there, they announced that they will be closing in 15minutes!! Well, we were not ready to give up yet...we tried every store that was left open. Every store beside Wall-mart was closed early for the holiday. Left without any choices we went to Wall-mart to shop more things that we wanted to send to the Philippines. At 9:30pm hubby called us to remind us that it was time to leave the store to meet him so that we can all watch the fire works...and that ended our shopping spree. Fire work watching was fun!! There were a lot of spectators from different places gather in one area just to witness the 20minutes fire works. But I cant negate the fact that the one we have in the Philippines are a lot better and fancier... these are one of the moments that reminds me on "how much I miss being home".

Net Problems...

I apologize for not being on the net for sometime now...it was because I was having a problem on our internet connections. We thought that it was because of a one week fire in Tahoe, just a 30mins drive from where we live... But then, when I called the AT&T support tech department I found out that it was all because of our wireless router. Yes, we are using the LINKSYS wireless router for almost 3 months now. This is to enable me to use my notebook while my husband use his desktop without any interruptions. Tho, last week was a disaster to us...just this morning, the first thing I did was grabbed my phone and dialed the LYNKSYS support tech. Was so fortunate that the guy who answered me was a filipino and was so helpful in trying to find the solution on our router problem. Atlast! just for a simple power cycle we were able to solve the problem. So, am back on the net again!! Yiiipeeey!!

From Me To My Husband...

Below is what I gave to my husband as my anniversary gift. This is NOT expensive but this is 100% STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART!!

HUSBAND'S REACTION WHEN HE SAW THIS: " I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!!! (As tears of happiness gently fell from his eyes). I'm so glad that he enjoyed what I made because everything I said that's in there is all true (even the songs that I used tells exactly how I feel) ... I LOVE YOU, Mahal. Hope and pray that we will be able to spend longer years of our life together.

Our Trip to Oregon...

Tired and exhausted from work my husband and I still got the excitement and energy for our trip to Oregon. We left exactly 6:00PM from my work and drove for 2 hrs on our way to sacramento. Of course, it would have been 700pm by the time we reached oakland...decided to grab a quick dinner at POPEYE's (oh, my GOD! I love this place!!! watch out what happened to me for the rest of our trip - -I got hooked on it!!) and for the first time I tried their apple cinnamon tart and again just gone crazy with it! Made sure I got 2 more in my purse to bring it with me during my long train ride....hehehe.

CRaMMiNg TiMe...

I am sooo glad that after my husband picked me up from work he decided to go back to his office to finish some work since we are leaving tomorrow night for Oregon. I was glad because I can finish the video that I was planning to give him as my gift. I was trying to shoot my own video but my husband kept calling me...telling me that he will be home soon and was just about to finish his work ( while I was at home struggling to finish my work too!). Then, I tried another video take, then he called again just as I was about to finish my msg for him,grrrrrrrrrr! I put my phone in a vibrating mode then retaking the video.......One last try! I didnt know whether he knew I was doing something for him or he wanted to give me a hard time - -because after a few minutes he was calling me again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BBBRRRRRRRRRRRR!! He was calling me when I was about to finish shooting...i ignored his call and tried to focus on what I was saying (which made me stummered a couple of lines on my video). Thats it! Whatever the outcome I didnt care as long as I said my important messagge clearly. I needed to finish this before he came home. I edited my project and added some music...And finally I'm done!! All I need to do is transfer this into a DVD disc...but I'll do it when we're on our trip. I'll just sneak out when he's sleeping...he always sleep like a log anyway ;-B... Gotta go...he just got home. Got to pretend that I'm not doing anything special. Hope he'll like what I made...

It's my B-DAY!!

---teeeet-------teeeet-------teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Who won't wake up by that sound during the unholy hour of the morning when you feel that its a little bit chilly and dark outside?? Me. Well, thanks to our alarm clock-- never fails to wake me & my husband up every 600 am to make it to work on time. But this morning was one of those hard to wake up days for me. Then my husband gave me a slight kiss on my cheek and whispered to my ear "happy birthday, sweetheart!" I jumped out of our bed and went to the living room right away! Yeah, I was so excited to open my gift (from dave) and to read the cards from my husband and mother-in-law.

Honestly, Ive been dying to open my gift a week ago. My husband gave it like he was teasing my patience...whether I could wait until my birthday comes...and I was challenged by that!! So, no matter how I wanted to open it didnt dare not until this morning.

I LOVE BIRTHDAYS...specially if it is my own...hehehe :-P

Didnt go make plans for today...but we will this coming weekend. We are going to Oregon to celebrate my birthday, and our Wedding Anniversary (6/11) and lastly to meet her favorite sister,kaye. Looking forward!!

Anniversary Coming-- HELP!!

Two weeks from now it will be our 3rd wedding anniversary...as the date is fast approaching I am getting worried because I haven't prepared anything yet to give to my loving husband. I know for sure that my husband got something planned out already...aside from the fact that he is a well organized man and always plan something ahead of time...while Im his opposite :-(.... I'm always late and cramming! I have been thinking about it a month ago but still didnt do anyhthing about it. Ooopsss, wait a minute...I have been working on a video for him but I think Im not on the half way of finishing it. Well, if I worked extra hours on it after work I might be able to give it to him on time...hmmm?? Let me try my hardest and see if I can do it... I always want to give him something special and worth remembering but not too expensive... coz' it still end up on my credit card and him paying ;-D.
